Light in the Windows (2013)

35.4x47.2 in ~ Painting, Oil

The artwork was inspired by twilight in Florence. The dimmed lights in the windows of the Florence cathedral, surrounded by the marble ornaments and medieval patterns of the Duomo wall reveal beauty of architecture, but let also imagine the warm lights of the interior. The artwork is painted in different shades of grey, with highlights in white and golden shades in windows. The building is painted with depth in the close-up, but the facade becomes quite flat, sketch-like in distance on the left, and the draft-like drawing is emphasised by the lines of scaffolding.
