There is a chronological and social contradiction in this artwork in which the depicted sand and terracotta coloured patterns of the floor belong to ancient Roman times. The people that are present can be guessed only by seeing their shoes. Some are shiny and expensive, making a bow to the Roman aristocrats who might have walked the same floor, but there are also sneakers or basketball shoes, unfitting in this historical site, reminding of tourists and, looking back, those vagabonds who once sacked Rome.
