The artwork received the Main prize in the art competition devoted to the portrait of Latvian poet Aspasia on the occasion of her 160th anniversary. I wanted to paint the famous feminist and poet as a young, independent person, not destroyed by the daily fight for survival yet and not overshadowed by her very famous husband Rainis - therefore I left him without facial features, painting just the iconic silhouette.
